When living in Ontario during the summer, anytime you get invited to a friend’s cottage you take it. There’s just nothing like spending time near the water away from all the heat and crazy of the city. After years of no invites to a cottage, as no friends had one, I got one this summer and I was thrilled to go. This trip took me to Southampton, Ontario, which had me going down memory lane of trips when I was young to near by Sauble Beach and day trips to Southampton.
As I don’t have a car, this journey had to happen by taking the bus. The bus can offer many uncomfortable challenges for someone like me, with Long Legs. By picking the wrong seat, behind a lover of the seat recline feature, that can make a 4+ hour bus trip so much worse. But, with this trip I was lucky enough to get that front of the bus seat beside a very lovely older woman. Our conversations made the trip go faster. And what was truly great was she was someone who could read when it was time for a break from the conversation inorder to enjoy some quiet time. So often, that can also be a big challenge in any transportation, the talker.
After enjoying the beauty scenery of southern Ontario, I arrived at my destination of the cute town of Southampton. A town of B&B’s, a quaint main street with new and family restaurants. Which amazingly, in my short visit I tried a few and they were all great. But I wasn’t there to eat. I was there to spend time with friends and enjoy the beauty of this lakeside town.
As I walked the beautiful boardwalk along the beaches each day I was amazed by the incredible blues of the water of Lake Huron. They reminded of the blues I’ve seen from the Caribbean or in pictures from Fiji or the Maldives. It was gorgeous.
Their boardwalk and bike trails/lanes make it easy for residents and visitors to walk and cycle between the towns of Southampton and Port Elgin. It is an amazing benefit of vacationing in this area of Ontario.
The beautiful beaches, the refreshing lake water with just enough waves to make it fun and the impressive boardwalks make Southampton a great place to rent a cottage, book a B&B or to be lucky enough to visit friends with a true cottage! Hope I get invited back!
