The taste and feel of decadence in the heart of London

June 10, 2015 by Anne-Marie Marais Leave a Comment

Beautiful Corinthia Hotel Lobby Lighting

Just steps away from the Thames, in the heart of London, England, I found the Corinthia Hotel. This hotel was a pure treat of delicious decadence that it not the norm for a traveler like me.

From the moment I, finally, laid eyes on this grand Victorian building I was so impressed, and relieved that I had found it. Not that it’s hard to find, at all.  But a few human errors and wrong decisions, including exiting one tube stop too late and some back tracking because of a missed exit off the pedestrian bridge over the Thames, made this experienced traveler feel a bit like an amateur.  And with no one to blame but myself, I was just that much more relieved when the Corinthia finally came into view.

A Great time at the Toronto Christmas Market.

November 30, 2013 by Anne-Marie Marais Leave a Comment

The Toronto Christmas Market is one the greatest holiday destinations and now traditions in the City of Toronto.  It has become a yearly stop for me.  The Christmas Market is the place I can go that will put me right in the holiday spirit.  With the carolers, the lights, the hot food and drink, the fire pits to warm up around and not to ever be forgotten the always beautiful Christmas tree, donated by Trees Ontario, with all it lights and splendour.

Short and Sweet – West Coast

August 14, 2013 by Anne-Marie Marais Leave a Comment

I just took these Long Legs for a short and sweet visit to the west coast where I was able to do and see so much.  The west coast is a place I always enjoy visiting.  So when a friend posted on Facebook that she had heard that Harry Connick Jr. was going to be playing a summer concert at a winery north of Seattle, I thought why not.  I’ve never done something like that.  I love Harry Connick Jr. and definitely love wine, so how could I go wrong.

I love New York!

Empire State Building

I don’t think that I’m the first to say that.  Actually I think I’ve heard it somewhere before.  I never get sick of visiting NYC.  It’s just such an incredible place with a unique energy that you can fall in love with anytime of the year. I don’t know that I’ve ever found a time of year that I haven’t enjoyed visiting this town.  People say that NYC in the humidity of summer is tough, but there are still wonderful things to enjoy even when it’s 40C+.

How do you select your wine?

December 1, 2012 by Anne-Marie Marais Leave a Comment

Recently I noticed that many of the wines I get excited about and that I tend to choose and buy are based more on a memory or experience that I associate with the wine than any other reason.  What about you?  Do you have a fond memory of a wine you enjoyed that special someone or at a great party or for just about any other reason?

Last days in NZ

March 11, 2012 by Anne-Marie Marais Leave a Comment

My last days in New Zealand have been great. Things have been slowing down a bit. Not any huge adventures, but still great fun.

Because I have not treated myself enough, on Thursday I went for an aqua massage and a soak in the thermal pools at the Polynesian spa in Rotorua. That was great. I don’t think my skin has ever been so smooth. But I don’t think I will be getting the sulphur smell out of my swimsuit any time soon. Time to buy a new one.
